On Saturday, the junior high Lady Mustangs played hard against Wilcox Hildreth and Southern Valley.  The “A” team started out the tournament against Wilcox Hildreth. During the first set, the girls came out strong and won.  During the second set, Wilcox Hildreth fought back, but the girls still managed to finish out the game with a win. In the game versus Wilcox-Hildreth, Emma Schmidt served 8 ace serves, Kaitlin Strampher had 4 kills, and Sydney Bartels lead the Mustangs in digs with 16 total. The “B” team then took the court and played against Southern Valley.  Southern Valley took the first set. During the second set, the Mustangs tried to fight back but fell short and Southern Valley won the game. The “B” team then played Wilcox Hildreth and won the first set. Wilcox Hildreth gave them a run for their money in set number two, and the Mustangs couldn’t pull it off. The game went to a third set, where the Mustangs won the game.  Mr. Sluka commented on the “B” team's performance and said, “I was so proud of how they came back and played, especially in the second game against Wilcox Hildreth. I saw a lot of good things from the girls.” The “B” team finished 3rd place in the tournament thanks to their win against Wilcox Hildreth. The “A” team then played Southern Valley for the championship. The first set the Mustangs lost 11-25.  After a quick talking to on the bench, the girls came back out and played hard. After a very tough set, the Mustangs lost 22-25. Mrs. Henkel commented, "The A-Team played very well versus Wilcox-Hildreth and Southern Valley. We played with such great teamwork and confidence! The Southern Valley Eagles were a tough team but we were able to compete with them and unfortunately fell short of winning. It's great to see the girls playing as a team and setting the ball up. I'm looking forward to seeing the improvement over the next three weeks. "
