Kate Baker

October 28, 2019

In her last games on her home court in Roseland, senior Makayla Dinkler played a big role in helping the Mustangs earn the second place plaque in their home invite on Thursday, October 24. Starting early at 4:00, the Mustangs took on Deshler, defeating them in two sets (25-20, 25-15) to earn a spot in the championship match. The Mustangs fought hard defensively, picking up 58 digs, with freshman Georgi tenBensel, sophomore Katelyn Karr, and junior Kerigan Karr with 15, 14, and 11 respectively. Dinkler held her own at the net, earning a season- high 3 blocks and 5 kills. tenBensel led the team with 7 kills of her own and Katelyn Karr earned 4 aces.

The Mustangs battled Axtell for the second time this year in the championship game. With an excellent defense from the Wildcats, the Mustangs struggled to find the floor, totalling only 25 kills as a team. Kerigan Karr led the team with 14 assists, finding Dinkler in the middle who led the team with 8 kills to keep the Mustangs in the game. Defensively, the Mustangs had 6 ace blocks, with tenBensel and Dinkler earning 2 a piece. Katelyn Karr led the Mustangs in digs, picking up 17, with junior Madison Miller and tenBensel earning 14 themselves. Despite the effort displayed, the Mustangs fell to the Wildcats in two sets with set scores of 25-23 and 25-20. Amanda Ehrman recalls the tournament declaring, “We were all super scrappy and played as a team, and we kept the same intensity throughout the games. I am really going to miss Makayla next year; she had an amazing game to end her career at home.”
