Making it Count

by Kassi Jones

February 25, 2019

On Thursday, February 14 the Junior High Math Counts team was competing in Kearney at UNK in the student union. The Math Counts team studied very hard before the meet at UNK. It was a fun filled day and they worked very hard to hopefully win. At the end of the day, AJ Sommer placed in the top 25% of all students and placed 32 out of 199 total students. Other students from Silver Lake who placed in the top 100 include Lana Swanson, Maddie Karr, and Samantha Bonifas who placed 66, 79, and 90 respectively. In the team round, which was completed by AJ Sommer, Maddie Karr, Rehgan Miller, and Samantha Bonifas, the Mustangs placed 10. Bonifas explained that, “Math Counts is a great opportunity in my mind. Throughout the process of being picked for the team, I have learned many new math formulas. At the competition, I was able to meet several people from many different schools. I encourage all students to try out for math counts because it is a truly valuable experience.” Overall the Silver Lake Math Counts team did extremely great.
